New station commander to tackle violent crimes in Dawn Park

The new station commander at Dawn Park Police Station, Johannes Chairman Makhubo, promises to fight crime and change the negative perceptions people have towards the police station.

Makhubo, who takes over from Lieut-Col Semakaleng Tindeka, vows to bring back the Batho Pele principles and build a strong relationship between the community members and the police.

Makhubo began his duties from August 15 and said violent crimes, carjackings, house robberies, business robberies, murder and theft are the major crime challenges that Dawn Park is facing currently.

Makhubo hails from Mpumalanga and currently he is a resident of Nigel. He is the fourth of six children.

Makhubo joined the SAPS in 1991 and studied for a diploma in police administration and management at Technikon SA. He also obtained a B.Tech degree in policing.

He further studied Investigation of Crime, Law of Criminal Procedure and Evidence, Research Methodology and Public Relations.

“I am motivated by people from all walks of life who excel in whatever job they do. The passion that I have for people drove me to join the SAPS as I have always liked to help people. Again, the fact that I hated crime while I grew up made me choose a career that’s close to my heart,” Makhubo said.

Makhubo has worked, among others, as a warrant officer, crime prevention group leader, captain for the operational planning and monitoring, social crime prevention, and coordinator for community policing forum leader.

He has worked in various police stations around Ekurhuleni including Benoni, Daveyton, Putfontien, Crystal Park and Kempton Park.

Makhubo said his dedication to his work, qualifications and his 25 years’ experience in the SAPS, made it possible for him to be selected as the new station commander in Dawn Park.

“Crime prevention is a joint effort by the community and the SAPS. Those community members that don’t respect laws and by-laws of this country will face the music.

“We want to restore the dignity of Dawn Park and protect people as it is our duty as police officers,” Makhubo said.

Makhubo said he would like to be remembered as someone who worked for the people and someone who brought safety and security to Dawn Park.
