
Van Zweel was walking down a street in Witfield on the night of May 16, last year, when van Wyk stabbed him three times in the back with a knife. He died on the spot.
The accused was arrested the next day and has been on trial in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court ever since, for premeditated murder.
On May 5, he pleaded not guilty but the court found him guilty on May 26.
He was sentenced to life in prison on September 29.
The accused has two previous convictions of possession of drugs in 1983 and 1986.
Magistrate Abel Shulubana presided and prosecutor Maria Olivier represented the state.
*Shane Oliphant (24) of Reiger Park was convicted of robbery on September 29.
The accused pleaded not guilty to assaulting Orlando Mawelele on December 29. He also forcefully took his R1 000.
The accused was sentenced to 12 months in prison, of which six months were suspended for five years.
He has no previous convictions.
Magistrate Bengequla presided and prosecutor Ntombi Mbonanai represented the state.
The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court:
*Nontobeko Mlambo (20) of Randburg was convicted of theft on September 30.
The accused stole seven portable computer hard drives from Incredible Connection valued at R15 693 on July 14.
He pleaded guilty and the court also found him guilty as charged.
The accused was sentenced to 24 months in prison.
Magistrate Ryan van Haarte presided and prosecutor Tashnee Ramchuran represented the state.
*Prince James Moyo (36) of Zimbabwe was convicted of theft on September 30.
Moyo was found in possession of a stolen 4m copper cable on August 19.
He pleaded guilty and the court also found him guilty as charged on September 30.
He has no previous convictions and was sentenced to three years in prison.
Magistrate Emmanuel Magampa presided and prosecutor Tashnee Ramchuran represented the state.
*Oefello Tama (19) was convicted of housebreaking and theft on October 4.
The accused stole a microwave oven from Simphiwe Tana on September 15.
He pleaded guilty and the court also found him guilty as charged.
He was sentenced to five years in prison.
