Boksburg y-14’s outclass Alberton
The Boksburg Football Club’s u-14 side hit league rivals Alberton for four, without response, to secure a comfortable Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Premier League victory, at Prince George Park.
The Blues netted twice on either side of half-time, with Keamogetswe Mothibi and Shane Radebe giving their side a two-goal cushion at the break.
Rudean Peters put the result beyond doubt in the second stanza, to give Ernest Seforo’s side an unassailable 3-0 lead before completing his brace in the game’s dying minutes.
The local outfit owes the classy victory to their dominant midfield and attack which was led by gifted quartet Gabriel Cossa and goal-scorers Mothibi, Radebe and Peters.
The Blues controlled play in the middle of the park, against the taller Alberton side, and emerged on top in most of the 50-50 balls.
Following an exciting opening half, the second stanza began on a rather frustrating note, with both sides guilty of cheaply giving away possession, courtesy of incomplete passes.
The first real chance of the half fell to the home side, after a neat combination between Mothibi and Radebe, but Peters was slow to react in front of the Alberton goal, with just a tap-in required to make it 3-0.
Alberton almost punished the miss just seconds later, but Rayhaan Sheik’s shot fell straight into Thabang Dolo’s hands.
The end-to-end action continued and Radebe found himself in space, following an Alberon defensive error a few yards out of goal, but his effort went agonisingly wide of the post.
One of Gordon Grant’s side’s more promising plays was led by Vuyani Nkomazi, down Boksburg’s right side – his hard work created a shooting opportunity for teammate Liam Scharneck, but his effort also flew above the crossbar.
Peters all but ended the match as a contest with Boksburg’s third 20 minutes into the half.
The No 10 benefited from a well-weighted through pass from Cossa, before finishing the defence-splitting move.
Alberton’s Thando Mampane could have potentially set the game up for an exciting finish, having found himself in space just two minutes later, but his powerful strike crashed against the bottom of Dolo’s crossbar and out.
Peters completed his brace as the match approached full-time, taking advantage of a scramble in the Alberton box, which turned out to be the last attack of the game.
“I’m happy and the boys played really well,” said satisfied Boksburg coach Seforo.
“The game wasn’t easy at all, as our opponents were good and tall. It’s always not easy to beat a good and organised team like Alberton, they are third on the log.
”I thank chairlady Sherrie from Boksburg FC and all the committee members for all our side’s support.”
Asked for his thoughts on the game, Seforo’s opposite, Grant, gave a scathing assessment of the game’s officiating.
“Well, the first two goals we conceded were due to pure shocking refereeing decisions – the standard of refereeing is disgusting,” he said.
“My team’s performance was fine and we had a few injuries, with my goalie being taken to hospital.”
Mampane assumed the shot-stopping duties later in the game.
