Introducing the youth to the world of the SAPS
Fifteen learners from Villa Liza, Windmill Park and Thulasizwe were invited to the Dawn Park Police Station for a Take A Girl Child to Work programme recently.
The aim of the day was to introduce a girl child to the world of the SAPS, to inspire them to be positive role models, to help them make informed decisions regarding their career paths and to enhance their self-esteem.
Florence Sithole from the police’s Human Resource Management explained to the girls there are different careers one can venture into in the SAPS.
“The SAPS has many channels of work. This includes social worker, a chaplain, while in the human resources you can be of service in the supply chain management, finance department, administration or even wellness department,” Sithole said.

Dawn Park Police Station’s Lieut-Col Semakaleng Tindeka encouraged the learners to start at an early age to present themselves publicly in a respectable manner.
“Everything has to start from home. As a girl child you need to be accountable to the household responsibilities at your home before you go outside into the world.
“You have rights and you need to take responsibility in order to grow up to be a decent citizen,” Tindeka said.
Villa Liza Primary School learner Thandiwe Dlamini said she was excited to be part of this programme as she learnt about the SAPS.

Event organiser W/O Buyisile Mvelase expressed her excitement for the success of the initiative.
“We decided to take grade seven learners since they are going to high school next year and we wanted to empower them and equip them the knowledge about the careers in the SAPS.
“We also want to thank our sponsors for making this day possible.”
