EMPD confiscates dagga from pupils

The on-going EMPD Bumper to Bumper special operations led to the confiscation of dagga at two Vosloorus secondary schools, on Friday, April 29.

The operation, targeting schools identified as problematic with regard to learners using the weed, was conducted between 8am and 1pm.

EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago said that, as per pre-arranged agreement in conducting school searches, the Metro Police were joined by observers from the SAPS, Social Development Department and Gauteng Department of Education.

“At Illinge Secondary School, in Mohlala Road, three learners – two in Grade Nine and one in Grade 10 – were found in possession of small quantities of dagga and were given a stern verbal warning by the officials,” he added.

“In the boys toilets at Lethulwazi Secondary, in Lekgolakgolo Road, the K9 Unit sniffed out a couple of dagga ziplocks.”

Kgasago said that, as it is procedure after the searches are completed, a pep talk on the dangers of drug abuse and how not to get hooked was delivered by the officials.
