RDP violence: Villa Liza suspects released

The 20 suspects who were arrested for public violence in Villa Liza have been released pending further investigations.

The suspects appeared before the Vosloorus Magistrates Court, on Thursday, April 28, facing charges of public violence, after they allegedly vandalised 86 newly built RDP houses, set alight eight cars and also set fire to three houses belonging to community liaison officers. Property of Jeremiah Madumo Khoza, Jonas Mthimunye and Bonginkosi Ngcobo was targeted, as they have allegedly been blamed for the allocation of the RDP houses.

Police spokesman Capt Tsekiso Mofokeng said the 20 suspects were released as their case was provisionally withdrawn for further investigation.

Hundreds of Villa Liza residents marched outside the Vosloorus Magistrates Court on Thursday, in support of those who were arrested.
