The victim was found in the veld near the Cason mineshaft early Thursday morning, April 28.
According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, police were called to the area at about 1am on Thursday.
“It is believed that the man was killed while participating in illegal mining in the area.
“The body was found lying in the veld with three gunshot wounds to his body, a stab wound to his chest and an open wound to his head.”
Paramedics pronounced him dead on scene.
The motive for the killing is still unclear, but police are investigating a case of murder.
Police are also working to identify the man and notify his next of kin, before his name is released.
