Investigation into stabbing of child (5) reaches advanced stage
The investigation into the stabbing of a five-year-old boy has reached an advanced stage, with police expecting a breakthrough soon.
Aliandro Pugi was critically stabbed by hijackers during an apparent hijacking on May 18, 2015.
Investigators told the Advertiser they are following up on information they believe is very credible, but would not reveal the details.
The child’s father told the police he was driving in his VW Golf along Trichardts Road, next to the Sunward Park Lifestyle Centre, with his son, when three unknown men confronted them and demanded the vehicle.
The father said he fought back, before the suspects knocked him unconscious with an unknown object during the struggle.
He felt dizzy and collapsed before they pushed him into the car and drove away with him.
They then dumped him on the same road, a kilometre from the scene.
He regained consciousness and went to the Dawn Park Police Station to report the attack.
The father, with the help of his family members and the police, managed to recover the car on the same road, a kilometre from where he was dumped, allegedly by the hijackers.
They then went to look for the child where the hijacking initially took place and Aliandro was found in the long grass next to the road.
The boy had suffered stab wounds to his abdomen, and he was rushed to hospital where he spent a couple of days recovering from his injuries.
The father sustained a few bruises to his forehead.
The incident shocked locals and devastated Aliandro’s family and friends.-@FanieFLK
