This is according to a Lillianton resident, who said that the metro contractors are “not doing a proper job” when it comes to erecting a stop sign.
According to the complainant, the anchor used to ground the pole is too small and the hole should be filled with concrete.
“The contractors should be using a 40x40cm cross anchor, where they are currently using a 10cm long anchor; they are also filling the hole with sand and covering it with grass,” he said.
The complainant showed the Advertiser a stop sign he easily pulled out of the ground with two hands on the corner of Calla and St James avenues, Lillianton.
He added that he has come across a number of other stop signs that have been erected in an equally shoddy manner.
“The metro will lose thousands of Rand, as anyone can now steal a stop sign,” said the complainant.
“Who is approving this method for erecting stop street signs?”
At the time of publication, the Advertiser had not yet received a comment from the metro.
