Deslon Court fire victim seeks assistance
Daniel Nel is appealing for donations for his family, who were left homeless when a fire broke out in their Deslon Court apartment on February 9.
Three apartments suffered severe damage due to the blaze that started in Nel’s apartment.
Recalling the devastating day that left him homeless, he said he was asleep on the couch and his wife was preparing clothes for his children, a two-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl.
“I was just taking a nap, knowing that afterwards I would go the store to buy a birthday cake for my daughter, who was turning four that day,” he said.
According to Nel his plans to go to the store failed, because he was awakened by his wife shouting “fire, fire”.
He could save only his family, as the fire had spread quickly.
Nel said he is confused about how the fire started and is still waiting for the investigation to shed some light on the matter.
He added that he has nothing left, as he lost everything. He now lives with a family member, where he has to pay rent with the little money he receives.
