Capt Allie van der Berg, from the Benoni SAPS, said men travelling in a charcoal Audi A3 with tinted windows robbed the woman of an undisclosed amount of money before they shot her.
Van der Berg added that police were on the lookout for a car fitting the same description as one used in a earlier house robbery in Farrarmere, Benoni, when they heard it was involved in a shooting in Boksburg.
Van der Berg said security officers at Jamaica fired shots at the robbers and their car, but they still managed to get away.
The woman was being attended to by paramedics.
