Speedster resists arrest, bites EMPD officer

A motorist resisting arrest for speeding ended up biting an EMPD officer on April 9.

The driver of a Golf was stopped on Old Heidelburg Road, near Rondebult, after clocking 111km/h in an 80km/h zone.

“The 35-year-old man resisted arrest and, in the process, sank his teeth deep into the officer’s right arm, necessitating medical attention at the Union Hospital,” said EMPD spokesman Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago.

The aggressive driver was eventually overpowered and locked up at the Alberton Police Station, where he was charged with excessive speeding, assault and resisting arrest.

He was due to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on April 11.

He was charged at the Germiston Police Station, with reckless and negligent driving, and released after posting bail of R1 000.

He was expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court on April 11.
