East Rand duo impress at 2016 FNB Dusi
Jarryd Breeds, a previous Boksburg High School pupil and white-water paddler, finished 75th position overall at the Dusi.
He partnered with Tommy Booth from Springs, a Comrades road runner, to enjoy the world’s toughest canoe marathon endurance event.
They enjoyed a top 100 position finish in a time of 10 hours 27 minutes over the three days.
Despite dire predictions of low water levels due to drought conditions, and expectations of the toughest Dusi in 60 years, the heavens opened and it rained throughout the three days, making it tough on the canoeists.
The gruelling 120km stretch race from Pietermartizburg to Durban took place between February 18 and 20 and included meandering through the muddy banks and hills of the Valley of a Thousand Hills, through wild white water (rather brown, thanks to the rains) and highly challenging rapids, with lots of runs, up and down slippery muddy slopes and steep hills.
A total of 594 boats finished the race. – @SabeloBoksburg
