PREMIER CRICKET LEAGUE: CBC ease past Tembisa

Christian Brothers’ College’s (CBC) Premier XI secured a comfortable eight-wicket home win against Tembisa on Sunday, February 21.

The home side, high in confidence, bowled Tembisa out for a below par 95 before overhauling it with relative ease in 23 overs.

Tembisa players, led by Mpho Nzimande, just could not get going in their innings after being asked to bat first.

The day saw Tembisa’s wickets fall in quick succession, with CBC’s Altus Pretorius being the main beneficiary (4/21 in 7.3 overs, including a sole maiden) to the opposition’s misfortunes.

Ncamile Livi top-scored for his side with 20.

In a reshuffle to the batting order for their chase, the home team introduced Craig Parker to open alongside Dylan Bennie, a move captain Shaun Liebisch explained, “Parker [Craig] was sent in to push the run rate up for us in case of rain, which threatened to spoil the day for us.”

Parker combined with both his captain and Bennie before being dismissed for 24. Liebisch contributed 11 runs.

Parker also shined in the bowling – taking 3/32 in his allotted 10 overs, including one maiden.

Bennie went on to end unbeaten with 27 along with Mark Pearce, who also finished undefeated with 23 as their side scored the 96-run target in 23 overs and securing a vital bonus point.

Asked whether this was his side’s easiest win this season thus far, Liebisch was tactful in response: “The result indicates that it must be an easy win. I was very surprised at the manner they went about their innings, giving away their wicket with indifferent cricket shots, considering how well they batted against us in the first game.

“From a batting perspective, we just had to weather the storm up front and not lose early wickets.” – @SabeloBoksburg
