Brakpan thrash hapless Boksburg
Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV recorded their biggest win of the 2015 Valke Peregrine League when they outclassed old rivals, Boksburg Rugby Club, on Saturday, July 4.
It has certainly not been a campaign for the Boksburg team, affectionately known as the Owls, as they languish at the foot of the Peregrine table.
Brakpan, however, are sitting pretty at the top of the log.
Boksburg’s misery was compounded at Bosman Stadium, on Saturday, when Brakpan ran in 11 tries (their most in the league this year) to win the match 71-5.
Brakpan winger Leon ”Sweef” Potgieter just cannot stop scoring at the moment and he continued his rich vein of form with another four tries against the visitors (his most five-pointers ever in a match for his team).
In eight Peregrine matches Potgieter has scored 16 tries (an average of two per game) and there is seemingly no way for opposition to stop him from scoring.
The try-fest at Bosman also means that the Panne outfit has an incredible number of tries scored this campaign.
The team has scored a whopping 63 tries in just eight Peregrine League games (an average of eight tries per game).
They will now carry their good momentum into an away clash with Vereeniging, on Saturday, July 11.
With the team winning 36-3 in their first meeting this season, it seems likely that Brakpan will return to Bosman Stadium with another victory to their name, as they go marching towards achieving their season goals of winning the Peregrine League and gaining automatic qualification to South Africa’s elite community club rugby tournament, the 2016 Cell C Communtity Cup.

Brakpan: tries: Leon Potgieter (four), Pierre Fivaz (brace), Tobie Botha, Albert Trytsman, Tinus Ueckermann, Theo Mynhardt and Wikus van der Berg.
