Harran’s championship run suffers a breakdown
The roller coaster ride continued for local superbike rider Brent Harran, in the Delmas leg of the Digital Entertainment on Demand (DEOD)/Gas Motorsport Championships event.
Fresh from his heroic win in the Cape Town leg, after starting the final race at the end of the grid, following complications in the qualifying rounds – the 21-year-old arrived in the Mpumalanga town as one of the favourites for his two heats on Saturday, June 14.
His fate had other ideas though.
Unsurprisingly, Harran was one of the front-runners midway through his first 15-lap race, until his bike picked up a technical fault. He eventually finished in fourth position.
The second race saw the rider finish third, a result which demoted him from second to third in the championship standings, going into the final round, set to be held at the newly-built Dezzi Track, in Durban, in September.
q Harren was, however, back to his best on Saturday, June 20, during a regional race (not part of the championships) in Durban.
He competed in three 10-lap races at the Dezzi Track and triumphed in all of them, setting a new outright lap record in a time of one minute, 16 seconds and nine seconds). – @SabeloBoksburg
