Boksburg secure vital three points in Leondale
The Boksburg Football Club’s Premier XI beat Zwide Football Club 3-1 in Leondale, in their Easterns Premier League encounter on Saturday, May 23.
The away victory solidified the Blues’ number two spot on the log – with defending champions Alberton remaining on top of the standings, following a 3-1 victory of their own against Elsburg – and maintaining their three-point lead.
The victories from the top two have helped them pull away from the chasing pack, with six points separating second-placed Boksburg and third-placed Zwide.
Eduardo Cassonga and Donovan Kruger continued their goal-scoring form as they both netted for the Blues, with midfield maestro Andile Mrubata also getting onto the score sheet.
Asked to give an overall assessment of his team’s performance, Blues coach Garth Cooley needed no second invitation to hail the outcome.
“Best team performance of the season,” he said.
“It was a complete team effort, everyone worked for each other and for the badge they put on.”
Boksburg are sitting on 19 points after eight games – having won six, lost one and drawn the other. – @SabeloBoksburg
