New quality assurance requirements for firearm licenses

The Boksburg North SAPS Firearm Record Centre (FRC) requests that all the people residing in the Boksburg North precinct check on the expiry date of their competency cards, as well as the expiry date of their licenses.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS’s, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, all competencies and licenses need to be renewed 90 days before the expiry date.

“If the applicant fails to renew the licence, the applicant will be in possession of an unlicensed firearm, because the licence expired as per Firearms Control Act Section 120,” said Coetzer.

All applications need to be made at the police station in the area in which area the applicant resides.

All new applicants for competency must have Proficiency Training Certificates, which are PFTC (Professional Firearm Training Counsel) accredited.

Saseta accredited training certificates are no longer accepted, as of January 1, 2015.

For more information, contact your local police station.

The Boksburg North DFO Commander is Sgt JA van der Mescht or DFO Const G Diedericks.

Boksburg North FRC working hours are 8am to 1pm for new applicants, and 1.30pm to 4pm for enquiries, administration and quality control.
