According to her, six months down the line and after having been issued with numerous reference numbers, the mess has still not been cleared.
Niemand first reported the leaking underground water pipe in November 2014.
“Workers first dug up my driveway, which was unnecessary, because the leak was under the road, which they dug up in front of my driveway,” she said.
“After repairing the pipe, they filled the hole with a muddy mess of soil, leaving my driveway in a mess.
“Needless to say, I was unable to get my car into my yard with this mess in the driveway for a couple of days, and with all the rain we had it was just chaos.
“I then logged another call to ask if they were sending the team out to refit my paving bricks in my driveway, properly fill up the hole in front of my driveway and retar the road.”
She was told, on November 13, that the metro would send out someone to attend to the issue.
“I followed up the next week and was told someone would be sent out in the next three days or so. Nothing happened.
“I followed up in another two weeks’ time and, again, I was told that someone would be sent out; the same call would be logged with the right department.
On February 9, when she phoned the metro again, she was informed that her reference number was no longer hers and that it had been allocated to another client, in Pomona.
A new reference number was allocated to her and a team was dispatched to her house on February 10.
“The supervisor asked me which drain was blocked. I then explained the situation and it seems like the call centre gave them the wrong information,” Niemand said.
“They weren’t able to attend to the mess, but she assured me that the documents will be handed to the right department and that they will come out to repair the road and my driveway,” said Niemand.
Again, nothing happened and she phoned the Ekurhuleni on February 19, and was given another reference number.
The problem has not yet been solved and the metro has not yet responded to our enquiry.
