Family takes centre stage at The Rock Raceway

The Rock Raceway was a hive of activity on Saturday, April 11, when the oval drivers all took to the wet circuit for some high speed motorsport action.

The star of the night was Boksburg’s nine-year-old driver, Megan Kotze, who won all three heats from start to finish in the Kids In Racing SA Ninja Class Group A from start to finish .

Contending with very wet track conditions, young ”Megz”, aka ”Rowdy Megz”, showed all her peers how it’s done.

In the second heat, she encountered a spin and the race was stopped.

Relegated to the back of the pack, with five laps left, young Megan put her foot down and passed the entire field with two laps to go, winning the second heat.

In the final, she led from start to finish, winning all three heats in her class.

Megan’s mother, Rina Kotze, also had a great night’s racing under her belt, when she finished third, as the only woman driver in the rotary-powered Super Midgets.

Her son, Brenden James, also brought the rotary-powered Hotrod to the circuit for testing, gearing up for the big Womza (World of Motorsport South Africa) Nationals, that will take place at The Rock Raceway, in August.

Brenden is the newly crowned World Champion Hotrod Driver. At the age of 14, he is the youngest hotrod driver in SA racing in both the Womza and MSA National Championship series.

He won the Hotrod Open Class at the previous event at The Rock.

All the members of this dedicated family are involved in motorsport and dad Dolfie is next on the list to make a podium appearance, in the Super Midgets class.

Fans and friends can catch the oval family in action at The Rock Raceway again, on May 9. – @SabeloBoksburg
