Time to tie your laces for local Colgate run

The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) Colgate 15/32km and 6km road races are around the corner and time is running out for athletes to enter.

The races, which again offer tremendous value for money, will begin at the Boksburg City Stadium, at 6.30am on Sunday, May 3, and also finish there.

Those who want to take advantage of the new course, specifically designed to produce faster times, have until May 2 to submit their entries.

Entry forms can be collected from BAC, at the Boksburg City Stadium, at the corner of Jubilee and Dudley Smith roads.

No entries will be accepted on race day.

The route will start in Jubilee Road and the athletes will run towards Brakpan, turning off at Barry Marais Road. They will then turn into Van Wyk Louw Drive, where the first water point will be located.

The runners will follow Van Wyk Louw Drive until they turn into Heidelberg Road, where the second water point will be placed.

They will then turn into Leeuwpoort Street and continue along this road until they reach the third water point, outside

the Colgate premises.

After Colgate, they will turn into Van Dyk Road for a short distance and then into Power Street, Brakpan Road and Lonie Road (fourth water point), and continue until they turn into the stadium gates, in Dudley Smith Road.

The 15km competitors will then run onto the stadium track to complete their run and enjoy refreshments, while the 32km runners will continue out of the back stadium gates (a water point will be set up for them here) and do another loop of the above route.

To add an extra 2km to the 32km race, the runners will do a loop in Boksburg South, running on Snyman, Dagama, Stanbury, Dick King, Walton and Dundee roads, before joining the route of the 15km, where an extra water point will be set up for them.

Apart from the road races, there will also be a 50m dash for children under the age of eight, which starts at 10am, with no entry fee.

All participants will receive medals.

There will also be jumping castles for the children and food stalls for the spectators and family members, where they’ll be able to indulge in lovely food and warm drinks.

The 6km fun run starts at 7am, with the first 2 000 finishers receiving medals.
