Honouring Mandela’s release from prison

February 11 marked the 25th anniversary of former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela's release from prison.

To commemorate this historic day, local pastors and community members made a pledge to liberate all people from the continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation, suffering, gender and all other kinds of discrimination.

The pledge, held in the form of a prayer meeting, took place at the Boksburg Correctional Services on the historic day.

“It is important to remember such a significant day and also reflect on how God responded to our prayers for a better living conditions in our beloved country,” said Reverend Senamo Molisiwa, General Secretary of the Council of African Independent Churches.

“As we celebrate Mandela’s release from prison, we will continue to pray for a better country, as well as for a future focused leadership which will lead us to a new dispensation.

“We will continue to hope that every South African citizen be freed from all forms of injustice.

“Madiba was a leader that God gave to SA to lead the way to glorious freedom.” – @NalediBoksburg
