Door-to-door campaign raises HIV/Aids awareness among 2.3-m

Over the past year, Ekurhuleni metro's door-to-door campaign has reached out to 2.3-million people who have been educated on HIV/Aids and TB.

This was revealed at the Ekurhuleni HIV and Aids Conference, which was hosted on November 13 and 14, at Springs Civic Centre.

The conference also reviewed the successes and challenges of the 523 Community Support HIV Programme volunteers.

Volunteers distributed five million male condoms and empowered 250 000 women to protect their own lives with female condoms.

“Ordinary men and women heeded the call to achieving zero new infections, have visited almost one million households to talk about counselling and testing, prevention of mother to child transmission, as well as health and social issues,” metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe. – @NalediBoksburg
