ERK paddler beats the crocodile
Boksburg resident and East Rand Kayak (ERK) Club member Kirsty Fox won the Triple A-rated Sasol Lowveld Crocodile Canoe River Race which took place on the weekend of October 25 and 26.
Fox finished as the first of only three ladies who finished the race, crossing the finish in a time of five hours and 16 minutes (05:16:00).
The race takes place from the Kwena Dam near Waterval Boven and flows towards Nelspruit. However, to avoid disturbing migratory hippo in the lower regions where they make their home, paddlers were required to do a 30km stretch of the river twice.
The Crocodile River is so named because it is home to the giant reptiles in and around the Kruger National Park area, while hippos roam around its upper regions. – @SabeloBoksburg
