Elderly treated on Mandela Day at Birchwood

Birchwood Hotel hosted 700 senior citizens of all race in and around old age homes from Brakpan and Benoni for lunch on Mandela Day, July 18.

The theme of the event was ‘Remember Nelson Mandela’.

Among the 700 elderly guests was a special VIP guest – 100-year-old Elizabeth du Plessis. She was acknowledged with a special gift from all the sponsors.

This ‘young lady’, as her 75-year-old daughter Lorranie van Bresies refers to du Plessis, has 20 grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and four great-great-great grandchildren.

“It is a big privilege to spend a day with my mother,” says a very emotional Van Bresies.

“We will never forget this day. God is good and His blessings are abundant. We must count His blessings.”

Du Plessis was raised an orphan after she lost her parents at a very young age in tragic circumstances.
