According to Dawn Park police spokesperson Capt Charles Tshabalala, it is alleged that the two had been terrorizing the community with robberies and murders.
One of the alleged criminals was killed in the shooting and the other suffered major injuries.
Tshabalala says the suspects did try to clean up the crime scene by taking with them the spent shells but one was left behind.
