Alleged warm bricks child abuser trial held today

The Boksburg Magistrates’ Court has on July 1 postponed the trial of the alleged Comet child abuser.

The detainee remains in prison, as bail was denied.

The matter has been postponed until today (July 9), when evidence will be disclosed.

Police arrested the 40-year-old Mozambican woman, a biological mother of the victim, together with the boy’s grandmother in May.

They were both charged with grievous bodily harm, after they heated up bricks before forcing the child to sit on them.

They allegedly burned the boy’s buttocks, hand and hips with the heated bricks as a punishment, after accusing him of stealing R300 in cash.

The self-confessed, victim’s grandmother Aida Mhlongo (57), was found guilty of the crime, and has since been sent to prison on June 19.

She has been sentenced to three years in jail, with one year suspended for five years, on condition that she is not convicted of a similar offence.

However, the victim’s mother, pleaded not guilty to the crime.

A man, said to be a third accomplice in the assault, is still at large.
