Vaal Reefs sinks Boksburg

Vaal Reefs Rugby Club put themselves back into top three contention in the Valke Peregrine League following a 44-8 home rout over Kaufela Boksburg on Saturday, June 7.

The visitors, who came from the back of a bruising single-point (34-33) win over rivals G5 Metals Brakpan, struggled to impose themselves.

Their cause to march on to greater heights was derailed by injured absentees, led by star backs Ashwill Adams and Ashley Buchler.

On the contrast, Vaal Reefs, coming from an agonising single-point defeat (22-21) at the hands of North West University, seemingly corrected all the wrongs on the drawing board to drastically overturn their misfortunes to outscore the Owls 6-1 in terms of tries.

The bonus-point win moves them to 11 points after five games, four adrift of Boksburg who occupy the third spot with 15 points.

Springs tops the table with 24 followed by Brakpan, who have 17.

The reverse match between the two will be staged on July 19 at PG Park. – @SabeloBoksburg
