LK Stars ease past CBC

LK Stars added to CBC Old Boys’ woes with a convincing 2-0 victory at a sunny CBC ground on Saturday, May 31.

The men from Daveyton fired on either side of the half-time break through striker Kholofelo Mohlala and goalkeeper Tshiamo Morale, who scored from the penalty spot to claim maximum points for his side.

The match, however, was marred by controversy after initially being called off for Stars failing to pitch. The referee, however, called the match to be played after the visitors had arrived 15 minutes later, which disrupted CBC’s rhythm.

“It was mentally hard for us to get our heads in the game from the start after the confusion of the game originally being called off,” bemoaned coach, Glen Brierley.

“We walked into a game not mentally prepared and just lost the intensity of the warm-up.”

Having come from a 1-0 local derby defeat to neighbours Boksburg Football Club, the homeside, who were down to 10 men following the controversial sending off of midfielder David King, struggled to contain Stars who produced wave-after-wave of attacks in the Eastern Local FA League encounter.

CBC enjoyed a few attacking spells of their own, especially in the second half, but it was the visitors who looked like adding on to their advantage whenever they went forward.

“The early disruption of the red card meant a reshuffle in the midfield and having to lose a striker up front, we lacked the killer instinct going forward and we struggled to contain them and dominate the game in the middle of the park, which left us exposed,” added Brierley.

The result sees CBC remain in the bottom two in the log with Stars accommodating fifth spot.
