The two municipalities have now become one.
During a special council meeting held yesterday, on April 22, a political and extended political steering committee was appointed to oversee and guide the process of the merger.
This was the first step of the project process which will be effectively implemented following the next municipal elections in 2016.
The committees are made up of MEC’s, executive mayors, speakers and chief whips.
Their functions include providing overall political leadership and direction to the project process, ensuring buy-in of all stakeholders, making key strategic decisions and grant approvals, assisting with information dissemination to the public and businesses, ensuring the implementation plan is adopted and monitoring implementation of the plan as well as to make recommendations.
Committee meetings will be held on a monthly basis and all matters before the committee will be decided by a majority vote.
