New clinic officially opens in Ramaphosa

The brand new Ramaphosa clinic was officially opened by the the mayor, Mondli Gungubele on Thursday, April 17.

The R21-million primary health care facility opened its doors after almost two years of construction.

The clinic located in Ingwanza Street, aims to provide comprehensive primary healthcare to the surrounding community, improve accessibility to healthcare services for disadvantaged groups, who previously had to travel more than 5km to access a health facility.

It operates from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4.30 pm.

The clinic consists of two professional nurses, one enrolled nurse from Reiger Park Clinic, a clerk from Bonero Park Clinic and an acting facility manager.

The facility offers only women and child health services. Emergency cases will be assessed and referred to nearby hospitals.

Services that will be available at the clinic once the full staff compliment has been employed, include HIV/Aids, sexually transmitted infections and tuberculosis (HAST) control programmes; management of acute, curative and chronic diseases; primary mental health care; antenatal and post natal care services; child and women’s health care; and as an information/education and communication centre.

The clinic would also be providing immunisations and family planning.

The new clinic will serve as a support structure to the existing Reiger Park clinic to deliver quality healthcare to the more than 62 000 residents of the area.

Mondli says opening a new clinic in the area was of high importance after the metro discovered that the area was in “high need” of healthcare.

He also said that there are probably a lot of people that will benefit from this, not having to travel to the nearby Reiger Park or Elsburg clinic.

“The clinic is under the overall management of the Health and Social Development Department.
