Residents requested to continue using refuse bags for April

As part of an ongoing project to improve waste management services in Ekurhuleni, the metro began with the rollout of 240 litre bins to replace the refuse bag system.

Distribution in the Boksburg area began last month, and is expected to be completed at the end of April.

The servicing and billing of these new bins will only start on May 1.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Lebogang Ramashala, says the metro therefore requests residents that have received the bins to continue utilising refuse bags for this month.

“The municipality appreciates that our citizens have embraced the new system, however, because not all areas have received the bins at this stage, we appeal to residents to continue using bin liners and only take these out on collection days,”says Ramashala.

“This is to avoid the confusion of the billing and servicing systems or having bins mixed with refuse bags,” she continues.

Distribution of the new bins is continuing in areas north of the N17 freeway.
