Squatters in Angelo face eviction
If the court rules in favour of Living Africa, hundreds of people living on the abandoned piece of land, in Angelo informal settlement, could face eviction.

This follows a decision by the legal owner of the land (Living Africa) to engage its lawyers to carry out the eviction.
The company issued the residents with eviction notices last month. They have up until April 11 to formally oppose the proposed eviction in court.
Respondents in the court case include Ekurhuleni municipality and occupants of the land.
The company wants residents to be evicted, because they have occupied the land without the permission of Living Africa.
According to Angelo informal settlement community leaders, if the court grants an order in favour of the applicant, hundreds of families would become homeless.
Apparently the affected people are the families that occupied the vacant space between the Angelo sportsground and the traffic lights on Main Reef Road.
Residents claim that the notices were not handed over to them in person, but they found them on the streets on March 26.
According to the residents they have not been given an alternative land to relocate to.
No comment was received from Living Africa at the time of going to press.
