Ward councillor warns of counterfeit money

Clr Hilary Coke is warning stall and shop owners, in the Angelo area, to be on the lookout for counterfeit notes.

“There is a group of youngsters who have been using counterfeit R100 notes in the area,” says Coke.

She adds that she will be visiting owners in the area to educate them on how to recognise counterfeit notes, without using expensive equipment.

“An easy way to determine if a note is legitimate is to rub it on a piece of paper, if the ink rubs off onto the paper, then the note is legitimate.”

She says that owners should also check the serial numbers and watermark.
