Rotary brings free health services to community

Civil society, big businesses and the government will team up to promote family health and create awareness around HIV/Aids, TB and non-communicable diseases, from April 2 to 4, as part of the Rotary Family Health Days.

The programme promotes healthy living and disease prevention by implementing a massive, annual campaign that provides comprehensive, free healthcare services to thousands of people, especially in underprivileged communities.

The Family Health Days in general are a comprehensive, holistic offering of free healthcare for parents, children, grandparents, friends and all family members to take place in over 143 sites across SA.

These health days, supported by Rotary International, will also see other services being performed over the three-day period, which will include life-long immunisations to children (polio and measles vaccines), de-worming and the dispensing of Vitamin A.

There will also be comprehensive lifesaving annual screens such as HIV, TB, diabetes, hypertension, malaria and more.

Approximately 4 000 Rotarians from 225 Rotary Clubs will be volunteering between 9am and 4pm daily during the three days to assist the medical staff.

It is the vision of Rotary and other partners to expand the health event. each year to other African cities.

The Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake will be helping out at the Wannenburg Clinic site in Primrose, on the corner of Pretoria and Mimosa roads.

The local Rotary intends to mobilise the community into action.
