Super Hero day aids local NPO’s
With the emphasis on creating awareness around children with disabilities and critically-ill children throughout South Africa, a Super Hero day will be held annually.

The 2014 National Super Hero day will be on May 9 – the day everyone will all dedicate to the charity close to their hearts.
The idea was initiated by Divan Serfontein Miracle Child Foundation, also known as the SuperD Foundation, office manager, Jackie Serfontein.
“Every person behind a charity is doing it for the love of something or someone, so we have decided if we can have a National Braai Day, we can have a Super Hero day,” says Serfontein.
“The idea is that no matter what charity cause you support, we all have heroes and we want to dedicate May 9, to everyone’s Super Heroes.”
In aid of any charity organisation in your community you would like to support, members of the public will be asked to buy a Super Hero sticker for R10.
The public can also participate by dressing up for the day and submitting their photos to the charity organisation they support, or e-mail them to the SuperD Foundation at admin@superd.co.za.
The photos will be posted on the SuperD Foundation’s Facebook and webpage at www.superd.co.za.
“I know SA will have loads of fun and we even have some friends in other countries on board with this,” explains Serfontein.
She also mentions that the concept has been taken good by other non-profit organisations (NPO).
To date, there are about 10 charity organisations, one university and a few schools on board with the effort.
Currently, there are no charities or schools in Boksburg who have ordered stickers yet, but the SuperD Foundation encourages them to take part in this exciting national event.
By sending an SMS with the word “SuperHero” to 38222, individuals will be donating R10 to the SuperD foundation.
For every sticker a charity organisation sells, R5 will be donated to that particular organisation.
“NPO’s are finding fundraising very hard, especially one’s like us in the Eastern Cape. Most of our funding comes from Gauteng and Cape Town,” says Serfontein.
Organisations must order stickers via e-mail, where after the SuperD Foundation will send it to them.
Individuals, schools, companies and charity organisations interested in buying or selling stickers for Super Hero day, may contact the SuperD Foundation on 081 322 0618 and admin@superd.co.za.
Should a NPO in Boksburg join, the SuperD Foundation will then refer the public to buy from them.
