Newborn found in lake still not identified

Nearly a month after the discovery of a plastic bag containing the body of a newborn baby at the Boksburg Lake, police say they have yet to identify the parents of the young child.

“We are still following any leads, but appeal for information on the matter,” says investigating officer W/O Rudi Venter.

“The cause of death is still unknown, pending the final autopsy report.”

The boy, believed to be two or three weeks old, was found floating in the Boksburg Lake, near the Boksburg Library, on Monday, January 13.

The baby was apparently dead for a few days when found, but showed no signs of traumatic injury.

An inquest docket was registered, but police mentioned that depending on the autopsy report, the case might be changed to the one of murder.

The body is still at the Germiston State mortuary.

Anyone with information is requested to call the Boksburg police on 011 841 6843.
