Boksburg Cricket Club starts new year with win
Boksburg Cricket Club got their second round of the season off to a perfect start with an away win over Duduza in their Premier League encounter on Sunday, January 12.
The convincing seven-wicket victory ended a barren run of results for the visitors who had not won since October last year.
Boksburg captain Len Meyer, opted to field after winning the pre-match coin toss before seeing his troups limiting the homeside to a total score of 143-all out in 44 overs.
Herman Meyer Junior proved to be a thorn during the homesides’ innings, taking 4/31 in eight overs.
Duduza opener, Mzamo Xundu was the stand-out performer behind the bat for his team, scoring 30, which was his side’s highest score of the day.
Bottom-order batter, Tumelo Simelane added 18, which was the second highest score for his side.
However, Simelane’s 18 preceded a tail-end collapse for the hosts, with Ntsizwa Mahlangu and Koketso Mokoena going out for nothing.
Sihle Skhosana and Peros Mofokeng added 23 (11, 12 respectively), but it wasn’t enough to deny Boksburg.
It just took 21.5 overs for the visitors to chase the 144-target score, with the top order virtually winning the game for them.
John Haywood and Michael Holtzhauzen combined for 82 in the first wicket, with Ruan du Plessis’ 45 bringing the target further in sight.
Loues Grobler added five before Holtzhauzen’s unbeaten 53 and Morne Badenhorst’s undefeated seven helping to propel Boksburg to victory.
Next for Boksburg are log leaders Kempton Park at home.
