Prison official is accused of assaulting teenage girl
A Correctional Services officer has been charged with assault for allegedly assaulting a teenage girl at the Boksburg prison, where she lives with her mother.
The officer was reported in other media to have taken off his uniform’s leather belt and allegedly hit the girl multiple times on her legs and thighs, leaving, dark bruises and scratches.
According to the report, the victim was with her twin sister and a friend, playing on the grounds of Boksburg Prison, where they live with their parents.
The three children were said to have been picking garden mushrooms when the prison officer, who was wearing his uniform, came out to reprimand them.
He apparently brutally beat one of the children with his belt and the others managed to escape and they were not harmed.
Capt Charles Tshabalala of the Dawn Park SAPS, confirms that the parent of the victim laid charges of assault against the official at Dawn Park police, however, he declined to give details, saying another senior police officer will be the one to make further announcements on the matter, later on.
Spokesman for the Gauteng Department of Correctional Services, Ofentse Morwane, also confirms that the matter is currently being handled by the SAPS, but declines to comment any further on the matter, saying that his department is still waiting for the police investigation.
The parent was reported to having expressed his disappointment that even though a case of assault was opened, the suspect was not arrested and is still working, to date.
