2013 Ekurhuleni Sports Awards nominations now open

Nominations for the 2013 Ekurhuleni Sports Awards are now open and individuals, clubs and organisations are invited to submit their candidates for the awards before February 3, 2014.

Spearheaded by Ekurhuleni, the awards seek to recognise sporting excellence in the region and to reward those who represent Ekurhuleni nationally as amateur or professional sportspersons.

The year 2014 will mark the third year of the Ekurhuleni Sports Awards, which are set to take place on March 14.

Last year the likes of Boksburg’s Paralympian gold medallist Samkelo Radebe, and others, such as South African hockey player Bernadette Coston, wrestler Adem Digovich and former Springbok rugby player Lawrence Sephaka, received accolades a glittering ceremony held at Emperors Palace.

Sportsmen and women who reside in Ekurhuleni or are a member of an Ekurhuleni-based sport club or school may be nominated for their outstanding sporting achievements during the period starting 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2013.

The categories for nomination are as follows:

Sportsman of the Year; Sportswoman of the Year; Outstanding Sport Official/Administrator; Sportsman of the Year (people with disabilities); Sportswoman of the Year (people with disabilities); Junior Sportsman of the Year; Junior Sportswoman of the Year; Special Merit Award (Including Posthumously); Coach of the Year; Team of the Year; Sport Federation of the Year; Secondary Sport School of the Year; Primary Sport School of the Year and Sports Fan of the Year.

Nominations must be submitted on an official nomination form, completed with a detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) and motivation, if necessary. These may be submitted before or on February 3, 2014, at the following Ekurhuleni Sport and Recreation offices:

* Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Sport and Recreation Head Office – 1St Floor, Hanover Square Building A, corner Hendrik Potgieter and 8th Avenue, Edenvale;

* Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Sport and Recreation Office at Germiston Stadium – Delville Road North, Germiston;

* Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Sport and Recreation Northern Regional Office – Plane Road, Kempton Park;

* Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Sport and Recreation East Regional Office – Room 117, 1st Floor, Springs Civic Centre, Springs.
