2014 health tips
Dr Oz, a well-known cardiothoracic surgeon, author and television personality, offers the following advice for health tips for 2014:

* Know your blood pressure. High blood pressure is the number one cause of aging, but because it’s a “silent” affliction, you’ll only know you have it if you measure your blood pressure on a regular basis.
* Feed your good gut bacteria. With probiotic-rich foods, like Greek yogurt. Emerging research is linking gut bacteria to everything from weight loss to boosting your mood.
* Don’t be Vitamin D deficient. Get your daily dose with 10 to 15 minutes of sun exposure, or supplement with 1 000 IUs daily.
* Stand up for your health. Sitting all day wreaks havoc on your body. Even something as simple as standing for several hours a day instead of sitting can have a positive effect.
* Sleep well. Not getting enough sleep can lead to weight gain and heart problems, so make sure to get your seven to eight hours each night.
* De-stress. Stress is a powerful ager, can cause you to pack on the pounds, and even suppress your immune response. De-stress by taking 10 minutes each day to clear your mind and breathe.
* Fill half of your plate with plants. Pack in a rainbow of fruits and veggies to get a healthy burst of vitamins and antioxidants each day.
* Slather on sunscreen. Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers, but it’s also one of the most preventable. Select SPF 30 sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and make sure to reapply every two hours.
* Arm yourself with aspirin. If you think you’re having a heart attack, chew a 325mg aspirin immediately, as it can help stop a blood clot from growing before it causes more damage.
