Keep an eye on children this festive
A child goes missing every six hours in South Africa.

This is according to figures released by the South African Police Service Missing Persons Bureau.
The chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Social Development, Yolanda Botha, has called on parents and guardians to exercise their inherent obligation of ensuring the utmost safety and care of children during this festive season.
“We seek to ensure that children are protected from any harm caused by negligence and all other social ills.
“With the festive season upon us, we urge parents and guardians to protect those placed in their care and ensure zero-incident rate. We want to also remind them that this is not a mere responsibility, it is their legal obligation,” says Botha.
According to Botha, this time of the year (festive season) usually has worrying incidences of children drowning, being abused, missing and being injured due to the lack of supervision by their guardians and parents.
Botha says the committee would like these incidents eliminated and call on parents to cooperate with authorities in averting these incidents.
“We want parents to exercise extreme caution at all times.”
