Potts sets his eye on regaining title

Fierce heavyweight rivals Ruan Potts and champion Andrew van Zyl will, on Thursday, November 12, renew their rivalry for the EFC Africa heavyweight title in a rematch of their EFC Africa 18 showdown.

Potts versus Van Zyl will be the main event at the 26th edition of EFC Africa, which has moved to the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg.

Van Zyl, who defeated Potts for the title via unanimous decision at EFC’s 18th edition, will be looking to retain his gold by getting one more over the challenger.

On his way to claiming the number one contender spot, Potts beat Mahmoud Hassan 37 seconds into the first round at EFC 21, which was the new EFC Africa record for the fastest heavyweight bout.

He then proceeded to dismantle Ricky Misholas at EFC 24 and is determined to knock Van Zyl off his perch.

“I want my belt back,” said the challenger.

“Sharing is caring, so I was taught. I’ve shared my belt and now I want it back.”

This will be the third fight between the two, with Potts winning the first encounter at EFC 11 before losing in the reverse bout at the 18th edition.

EFC returns to Carnival City for the 27th edition in February next year.
