Goju Karate Academy wins at GKF awards
Karateka assembled at Gold Reef City’s Convention Centre, for the Gauteng Karate Federation Awards evening, which took place in late October.
The Goju Karate Academy, of Sunward Park, won a total of nine trophies at the event, after five of its members were acknowledged for their stand-out outings throughout the course of the year.
Gareth Hird was awarded a trophy for placing third in the National Championships.
He was also awarded a trophy for winning at the South African Championships, in the team Kata event, alongside Ryan Sheppard and Werner van den Berg.
The triumvirate received an additional trophy for representing South Africa at the African Championships in Tunisia.
Sensei Marius Madgwick received two trophies for winning in the senior team Kata event at the National Championships and representing the country at the Commonwealth Championships and Zone 6 Championships, held in Canada and Namibia respectively.
