Boksburg FC U-13s impress

The Boksburg Football Club u-13s comprehensively beat Actonville’s Benfica Sporting Soccer Club 5-1, in a friendly match played on Saturday, November 30.

The Blues made a promising start in the clash at the Boksburg Stadium and took the lead against the run of play, through a long, dunking shot, from outside the 18 yard box, by Delesilynn Foster, which caught Benfica ‘keeper Monde Mokone off guard.

They doubled their lead just a few minutes later, when Tristen Speelman scored the first of his hat-trick of goals, with a driving grass-cutter inside the box.

The score remained at 2-0 going into the half-time break, as the away side slowly gained a foot-hold in the match.

Benfica ace Shaheen Derlin Jagger – who had a major influence in his side’s attacks – pulled one back after the break, with a classic, curling, free-kick from the edge of the box.

Buoyed by their goal, the away side gained momentum and sent more bodies forward, but it was Boksburg who regained their two-goal cushion from a counterattack.

Speelman received a long ball in the middle of the park and fired a shot past Mokone, to help Boksburg to a 3-1 lead.

Speelman scored his third and his side’s fourth with the ball deflecting off his shins at the far post, after a scuffle from his side’s corner, before Quileyn Wesley fed off a perfectly measured through pass and scored a spectacular long-range effort, which proved too hot for Mokone to handle.

Momentum’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) manager Emmanuel Mahlangu, who was approached by the coach of Boksburg, as potential kit sponsors, were delighted after the 60-minute match.

“This initiative [sponsoring the team] is a way of motivating the boys and also a token of our appreciation shown to the community at large,” Mahlangu said in a brief pitch-side interview.

“This is a start to an on-going relationship between the Boksburg u-13 side and Momentum.”
