A showcase of art
Helene du Preez -- maths teacher turned artist -- showcased her work at an art exhibition held at her home, in Van Dyk Park, on Saturday, November 23.
Friends, family and community members gathered at her home to enjoy viewing her different artistic displays, as well as to show support by buying a few.
Five artworks were sold on the day.
Among the paintings on display were three which were selected for the Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards, which were recently held in Kempton Park, hosted by the executive mayor of Ekurhuleni.
Helene’s artworks comprise mainly of oil paintings, but she is also capable of using other techniques, such as pencil, acrylic and water colour.
She says it takes two to three weeks to complete a portrait, as she adds emotion and details to the eyes.
“I paint only people I’ve met and spoken to; I take photos to get a feel of their personality,” explains Helene.
She is a full time artist and is available to paint portraits (family and individual).
