Physical disability doesn’t stop academic achievement

Jean Flint (13) was born with Cerebral Palsy, but she has not allowed her "condition"' to stop her from becoming a top achiever.

Cerebral Palsy is a term used to encompass a set of neurological conditions that cause physical disability in human development, affecting both the brain and nervous system.

Despite her struggles, Flint has obtained numerous accolades in both her education and sport activities.

She attends the Muriel Brand School, in Brakpan, which makes provision for learners with physical and specific learning disabilities between the ages of three to 18 years (nursery school to matric).

She is also part of the Central Gauteng Union for Celebral Palsy.

Flint obtained the following sports certificates:

* Silver in club throw

* Gold in shot-put

* Silver in discus

She also received a Blue certificate in horse riding therapy.

Flint is one of the top five performers in her school and received a gold certificate for obtaining an average of above 70 per cent.

She received the best performer award in the following subjects:

* Afrikaans Higher Grade

* English (First Additional Language)
