The municipality pledged itself to cover some of the funeral expenses, including paying for the reception of mourners, the cost of transporting the body and family members to the Eastern Cape, where Madikane will be buried, next weekend.
The municipality has already donated groceries to the family of Madikane, for the funeral.
“We want to make sure that that Siphamandla is given a decent burial and that the family gets enough support,” says mayoral spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
In a statement issued by the metro, Ekurhuleni mayor Cllr Mondli Gungubele expressed shock at the gruesome killing of Siphamandla, and he called the boy’s death a “gruesome killing”.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Madikane’s murder is the latest in a string of attacks on children across Ekurhuleni, this year.
Five-year-old Siphosihle Dladla was found dead near a railway line in Katlehong, on Saturday night, August 17.
In another horrific attack on children, Lehlohonolo Magatikele (8) went missing on January 17, and his body was later discovered in the open veld near a filling station in Somalia Park, along R103, on January 18.
