Shianne shines at Water Ski Championships
Shianne Addinall of Boksburg was crowned European and African junior champion after a string of stellar performances at the European and African Barefoot Water Ski Championships in Kimberly.
She won all three events, namely, slalom, tricks and jump to complete a dominant showing in the junior division at the tournament held between October 23 to 26.
She finished third in jump, second in slalom and first in tricks in the open division to keep her medal-tally ticking.
Her superior points total in both divisions earned her a further two gold medals for being the overall winner for both junior and senior.
“It was really exciting,” she said, referring to her achievement. “I’ve been working hard to become world champion, and now I’m halfway there by becoming the European champion.”
South Africa was the only African representative at the championships, which had 47 skiers from eight different countries in total.
The rest of the countries that were involved, included Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany and Great Britain.
Shianne won 10 medals – split between eight gold, one silver and one bronze – on a day where South Africa finished top with the highest points.
The World Championships are set to take place in March 2014, in Australia.

A pity both Shianne’s name and surname are spelt wrong in this article. This young lady is 14 years old and is the new Junior and Open European and African Champion. Over the years the Boksburg Advertiser has reported on her progress winning the South African Championships 7 years in a row, competing at the Worlds and European Championships. Looking back at those articles, I personally feel that this is the worst written article I have read in a long time, especially for such an outstanding achievement.
