His concern is if the children in the area would be able to afford to pay R10, more especially if they would want to use the facility more than once.
“Many children sit outside the facility with the hope that somebody will sponsor them in order for them to enter.
“Has the Reiger Park community swimming pool now become only for the exclusive?” he asks.
“My appeal is to the Ekurhuleni metro to reconsider the price tag placed at the community swimming pool and bring back the joy our people had in past years.”
Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Sam Modiba, says that although the percentage increase of their tariffs may look astronomical, however, it is still less than what other municipalities of the same size as the Ekurhuleni metro charges.
“The issue of the increase in tariffs does not only affect the Reiger Park pool, but all other sport and recreation facilities,” he says.
“Tariffs are a charged for the use of municipal services in order for municipal facilities to remain in a good operational condition for users.”
